L'Eau
dans les rites funéraires égyptiens de l'époque tardive
Résumé : Dans les rites et rituels fondamentaux de l'époque tardive destinés
à réanimer le défunt pour la vie d'outre-tombe [embaumement, ouverture de la
bouche, lecture des livres des respirations à son profit], l'eau tient une place prééminente
pour deux raisons indissociables :
- matrice originelle
pour l'Egypte pharaonique et source de vie pour les vivants, elle abreuve d'abord le mort
et lui restitue son énergie initiale ;
- elle est, ensuite,
le symbole et le moyen de sa purification et de sa divinisation.

Water in
Egyptian funeral rites of the late period - In the
Egyptian fundamental rites and rituals of the later period which were designed to revive
the dead into the life beyond [embalmment, opening of the mouth and reading of the Books
of Breathing for his benefit], water is of paramount importance for two indissociable
reasons :
- as the original
matrix for pharaonic Egypt and source of life for the living, it first waters the dead and
restores him its initial energy,
- as the symbol and means of
his purification and deification.
