The
Celestial Sphere in Ancient Egypt
Abstract
: In reading
the introductory hymn to the sun-god Ra in the Papyrus
of Ani, attention of authors was immediately attracted
by the egyptian word psdw.
Neither of the major dictionaries of the ancient
egyptian language (LESKO, 1982 ; FAULKNER, 1991 ;
Woterbuch de ERMAN et GRAPOW (1926) have this word with
the determinative of the sun. In this paper, they show
that it is an astronomical term which
means the celestial sphere.

- Les auteurs ont relevé dans l'introduction de l'hymne
au dieu-soleil Ra du Papyrus Ani,
l'existence du mot égyptien psdw
qui ave le déterminatif du soleil ne figure dans aucun
des dictionnaires majeurs de la langue égyptienne
(LESKO, 1982 ; FAULKNER, 1991 ; Woterbuch de ERMAN et
GRAPOW (1926). Ils montrent dans cet article qu'il
s'agit d'un terme d'astronomie qui
désigne la sphère céleste.
Problems
in Egyptology : Ancient Egyptian Kinship
Abstract :
This
article places itself in an attempt to highlight a
vexing problem in Egyptology. It has the dual purpose of
dispelling the popular albeit erroneous conception that
consanguineous marriages were rampant in Pharaonic Egypt
and to illustrate how the mechanical imposition of
Western (Indo-European) kinship terms have altered and
distorted the accurate depiction of kinship, family
relations and social organization in ancient Egypt.

Cet article se présente comme une
tentative visant à éclairer un problème controversé en
égyptologie. Il a le double objectif de montrer
l'inexactitude de l'idée, très répandue, selon laquelle
les mariages consanguins étaient largement pratiqués en
Egypte pharaonique, et d'illustrer comment l'application
mécanique des termes de parenté occidentaux (société
Indo-européenne) a altéré, déformé la véritable
description de la parenté, des relations familiales et
de l'organisation sociale de l'ancienne Egypte.
